Fishing
Introduction
In Castaways, various Fish and Sea Junk can be caught using a Fishing Rod.
How to Fish
Craft a Fishing Rod
A Fishing Rod is required to fish. A fishing rod can be crafted from 3x Sticks & 2x Rope. Sticks and Rope can be found floating around the Hub or crafted.
Finding Fish
Fish will appear around the player every 60-180 seconds, the number of fish that spawn increases the more players gather in an area.
Fishing
Fishing in Castaways is a time-based reaction mini-game. 1. Locate the fish you would like to catch by finding a fish silhouette in the water. 2. With your fishing rod equipped, click or tap as close to the fish as possible. If you are successful, the fish will start to dart towards your lure. 3. When the fish bites, a large splash will erupt from the water. To hook the fish, click as quickly as you can on the splash after it first appears. 4. If successful, you will reel in your catch! BIG Fish
There are some fish in Castaways so big that it takes two or even three other players to catch them! The big fish mini-game pits players against each other to catch the big ones. But only one player can win! 1. Only Large and Extra Large fish will trigger the big fish mini-game. Big fish will have a noticeably larger silhouette than medium and small fish. 2. Once the fish bites and you hook it, the big fish info panel will appear. Using this panel, you can create a one-time invite code that can be shared as a direct link to where you are. 3. Your player will be unable to move until another player casts their line and joins the game. 4. Once the joining player casts their line, they will go through the same fishing sequence. When the joining player sees a splash, they must click to reel in the fish.
The winner of the big fish mini-game will be the player that had the quickest reaction time between the splash and clicking to hook the fish. The first player does not need to click after they initially trigger the big fish mini-game. Their time is already locked in.
NOTE: The Whale requires three players to compete in the fishing game.
Worms
Using Worms
When competing for Big Fish, worms will increase your chances of winning by 10% (1.1x). Every time you compete for a big fish with worms in your inventory, the number of worms will decrease by x1 regardless of the outcome. If both players have worms in their inventory, then they both receive the bonus, and the advantage is negated. Visit the worm's page for more information on acquiring worms.
Fish Silhouettes
When a fish appears in the water, it will only appear as a silhouette. The silhouettes come in four sizes: Small, Medium, Large, and Extra Large. The table below illustrates the type of fish that might be caught when you hook a fish with the corresponding size silhouette.
