Islands on Castaways are a more activity filled aspect to the castaways world, unlike the hub users with permissions have the ability to break and place blocks, and make creations that come to mind to make the Castaways experience unique to users. There are currently 500 islands in the castaways world, users were able to previously obtain them by owning a raft or getting them from a free mint, now users can obtain them through Opensea as an NFT or by winning them in events. Each island is owned by a player but some users choose to own multiple.

Generation islands

Islands can have different generational aspects, but generation 1 islands are the only current ones available.

Generation 1 islands can feature a Coal Mine or a Volcano but they can come in different combinations, each island is limited to up to 2 material sources. An island can have between 0 and 2 volcanoes, and between 0 and 1 Coal Mines.

Base island

When first starting islands start off with 1 fully grown Palm Tree, a Wood Axe, and the basic terraformed island featuring 12 blocks of grass, 12 of stone, and 20 blocks of sand.

Island Permissions

Islands permissions are automatically set to owners only, but island owners are able to use a variety of commands to set permissions for other users. All permissions are set in-game, by typing commands into the chat bar.

Island-wide permissions:

  • /island add [user] - this makes the user an admin of the island. They can do everything you can do, 'except' adding/removing players and setting permissions
  • /island op add [user] - this makes the user an operator of the island. They can do everything you can do, 'including' adding/removing players and setting permissions. The only thing they cannot do is to change/remove permissions for the owner of the island.

Region permissions: With the Homestead update, it became possible to define regions with specific permissions in-game, by using the Laser Pointer. To make a region, select the Laser Pointer in your toolbar, and then define a 3 dimensional box, by right-clicking the two opposite corners, as shown here. After setting the second point, a box will appear where you type in the desired name of the region and hit enter.

Regions can be seen as red outlines on the island while holding a laser pointer, and by pointing at a box, the name of the region will be displayed.

Once a region is defined, a variety of permissions can be set for each individual region, as shown in the table below.

Moving Between Islands

Similar to the hub command users are able to do /island <number> to make their way to another island.
