The scarecrow is a craftable item introduced with the homestead update. It will protect crops from birds during the [[Night]] in a 15 block radius. Based on screen shots it seems likely that you will need a [[Milo Doll]], [[Stick]]s, [[Rope]], [[Kelp]] and [[Old Boot]]s to craft a scarecrow.
